Discover what you're good at, what excites you and where your interests might lead. Supported by a community committed to your success, and a curriculum built for a changing world, you’ll graduate with the skills and capabilities to take on whatever comes next.

A community where every student can thrive

No matter where you’ve come from or where you aspire to be, at the University of Melbourne, you'll find a diverse community where different perspectives, backgrounds and ideas are celebrated. It's an environment shaped by curiosity and intellectual rigour, where ideas are tested, perspectives challenged and learning is always future focused.

Our eight campuses sit on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, Bunurong, Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung peoples, with our Parkville campus within the largest biomedical precinct in the southern hemisphere and Southbank at the heart of Melbourne's renowned Arts Precinct. Across campus, you'll find plenty of opportunities to connect with others, expanding your network beyond the classroom through over 200 clubs and societies and a packed calendar of student events.

A distinctive curriculum for a changing world

From undergraduate study through to advanced graduate degrees, the Melbourne curriculum offers flexibility to explore disciplines before focusing on your chosen specialisation. This unique education experience helps you to develop critical thinking, creativity and adaptability. You’ll develop the expertise and confidence you need to navigate and succeed in your career over time. It’s why Melbourne graduates are Australia’s most highly regarded by global employers, outranking other global top-20 institutions.

A Learning experience guided by leading minds

You’ll learn from world renowned academics, researchers and industry leaders who bring the latest thinking in their fields into the classroom.  You’ll learn to think deeply, challenge ideas and contribute to work with real-world impact. This access to exceptional teaching and networks, combined with hand’s on and work-integrated learning opportunities, supports you to develop the skills and perspectives needed to lead in a global context.

A degree that evolves with you

Our degrees aren't like most others you'll find in Australia. You begin with a three-year bachelors degree, choosing from more than 100 majors to shape your studies from the start. From there, you can move into the workforce or continue into graduate study or research to gain a specialised, globally recognised qualification. This structure means your education can respond to new interests and opportunities as they arise, while building towards long-term career outcomes. If you already know what you want to specialise in at the end of high school, you can also apply for a Graduate Degree Package. This combined offer for both an undergraduate and specialised graduate course helps you secure your pathway before you begin your undergraduate studies at Melbourne.

Additional information

Concurrent Diplomas

Concurrent diplomas in the areas of informatics, languages, mathematical sciences and music allow students to study the diploma alongside their bachelors degree. This will usually add a further year of study unless students take a 'fast track' to completion (with the potential to complete the diploma at the same time as their bachelors degree). Applications for concurrent diplomas are made directly to the University once students are enrolled in a bachelors degree.

Indigenous students

Murrup Barak, Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development is the central point of contact for Australian Indigenous people on campus. It provides a range of services, facilities and scholarships to eligible students. Refer to the VTAC Guide course entry for the Bachelor of Science (Extended). This course provides a pathway for motivated Indigenous students who may not meet formal entry requirements.
