Principles of selection
At Deakin, selection will be based primarily on academic merit as indicated by the applicant's previous academic record. Applicants must satisfy relevant pre-requisite studies and other specific entry requirements for their course of preference. The University has set an academic standard for each course at each campus. An applicant must meet the minimum academic requirements to be considered for selection into the course at a particular campus.

Education course requirement
The Faculty of Arts and Education requires all applicants for its future teacher training to sit the Casper test. It is a non-cognitive online test designed to assess an applicant's personal and professional attributes. Access & equity through VTAC

Out access programs support students who may not follow a traditional path - providing opportunities to study, succeed and build a career you're proud of.
Deakin provides lower guaranteed ATARs for eligible Australian Year 12 for most undergraduate courses. This provides students with more certainty, can reduce stress and ultimately give you greater opportunity to get into the course you want.
To be eligible for this program, you will need to meet at least one of the following criteria, preference Deakin and remain opted-in for the 'personal information and location' category in VTAC equity schemes.
- Attend a Deakin under-represented school
- Live or study in a regional or remote location, or
- be of Indigenous Australian descent

Elite Athlete Adjustment Scheme
Consideration will be given to Elite Athletes applying to all Deakin courses with a maximum of 5 aggregate points being awarded. Elite athletes are defined, in line with Deakin’s membership of the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) network, as athletes and coaches contracted to those sports and entities as outlined on our website. Deakin's National Indigenous Knowledges, Education, Research and Innovation (NIKERI) Institute offers community-based education programs so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have the flexibility to access higher education while maintaining family, working and community commitments. English language proficiency
To enrol in a Deakin degree, you will need to be able to read, speak, write and listen in English at a level that allows you to fully engage in your coursework. This level of English also enables you to successfully live and work in Australia while you study.
