Offer Rounds Overview
Offers are made to applicants at different times, known as "offer rounds." For specific dates, refer to the VTAC dates page.
- Semester 1 intake: Offer rounds are between November and February, with December and January offer rounds accounting for the majority of offers.
- Semester 2 intake: Offer rounds are between late June and July.
Offer Rounds Overview
Offers are made to applicants at different times, known as "offer rounds." For specific dates, refer to the VTAC dates page.
Main Round Offer rounds
Main Round offer rounds are for semester one intake.
-
November Offer Round (domestic post-school applicants only):
Institutions may begin making offers as early as November for some courses and applicant types. If you receive an offer in one of these rounds, you will still be automatically considered for higher preferences in later rounds. To be eligible for this round, post-school applicants must submit their application by the timely closure date.
-
December Offer Round (current Year 12 students only):
Year 12 applicants from all states are eligible for offers in the December round, provided VTAC receives timely results from schools.
This includes applicants that have provided their results for overseas year 12 qualifications in the current year. -
January Offer Round (All applicants with results): All courses are required to participate in the first round of offers in January. All other offer rounds are optional and will depend on the number of places available and other factors.
- Subsequent Offer Rounds (All applicants with results): Institutions may make further offers in subsequent rounds following the first January round of offers. If you received an offer in a previous round, you will still be automatically considered for higher preferences in subsequent rounds.
Mid-Year Offer rounds
Mid-year offer rounds are for semester two intake. The offer rounds start in early June and occur over several rounds. Not all institutions participate in every round. Mid-year offers are available to post-school applicants and some Year 12 students following the Northern Hemisphere Timetable (NHT).

Receiving Offers
You can receive more than one offer during the VTAC offer rounds. However, you will receive only one offer per round, always from the highest preference on your list that is prepared to make an offer. If you receive an offer in a given round, you will still be considered for offers from higher-listed preferences in subsequent rounds.
If you receive an offer for a course you prefer, you must accept the new offer, and then unenroll from the original course. How to Accept Your Offer
To accept your offer, you must enroll in the course by following the instructions provided in your offer email from the institution. Always accept an offer to confirm your place and to ensure the offer does not lapse.
Future Offers
Accepting an offer will not prevent you from receiving offers in future rounds for higher course preferences. However, if you receive an offer for a course you prefer, you must accept the new offer, and then unenroll from the original course.
Offer Acceptance Process
Please note that offers can only be accepted through the institution"s portal and cannot be accepted via your VTAC account.
Options After Receiving an Offer
When an offer is made, you will have the option to accept, reject, or defer your place in the course. Some courses may allow you to defer your place for 6 or 12 months.
How to Defer Your Offer
To defer your offer, first confirm that deferment is available for the course. Then, follow the instructions provided by the institution.
Contacting the Institution
Please note that VTAC is not involved in the deferment process. If you have any questions regarding deferment, please contact the institution directly.
Receiving Offers During VTAC Offer Rounds
In each VTAC offer round, you are eligible to receive one offer. If you accept an offer, you will still be considered for higher preference courses in subsequent rounds.
Impact of Accepting an Offer on Future Rounds
Accepting an offer will not prevent you from receiving offers in future rounds for higher course preferences. However, if you receive an offer for a course you prefer, you must accept the new offer, and then unenroll from the original course.
Impact of Deferring or Rejecting an Offer
Deferring, or rejecting an offer will not affect your eligibility to receive offers for other courses in later rounds.
Reordering and Editing Preferences
You can reorder and edit your course preferences during the change of preference periods. Refer to the VTAC dates page for specific dates.
Unsuccessful in Receiving Desired Course Offer
There are a number of reasons why you may not have received an offer for your dream course:
-
You did not meet the selection rank (ATAR + adjustment factors) requirements, and your application was not competitive when compared to all other applicants for that course
-
You did not meet prerequisite requirements for the course, including subject prerequisites
-
You did not complete additional selection requirements, such as a selection task
-
The course is not participating in the offer round (Note: all courses must participate in January)
What to do next
-
View the relevant course pages in CourseSearch to ensure you meet all of the requirements for the courses on your preference list.
- Review the Key Dates page on the VTAC website to understand all of the relevant key dates and deadlines.
-
Contact the institution if anything is unclear regarding your eligibility for selection or to determine any pathway opportunities toward your dream course

The supplementary offer process allows courses with available vacancies to extend offers to VTAC applicants who have not previously applied for those courses.
