VTAC Offer Rounds: How They Work

What Are Offer Rounds?

When you apply through VTAC, you will receive updates about your application on specific dates known as Offer Rounds.

For a complete list of confirmed VTAC offer round dates, visit the VTAC Key Dates page.

How Offers Are Made

  • You can edit your course preferences between Offer Rounds. For more details, please read the article “How do change of preference deadlines work?”
  • Before each Offer Round, course preferences are locked and your application is forwarded to institutions on your preference list for consideration.
  • Confirmed institution offers will be released on the VTAC Offer Round date.
  • You can receive only one offer per round, and it will always be from the highest-listed course that is willing to make you an offer.
  • In later rounds, you will only be considered for courses higher on your preference list than any previous offers.

Receiving an Offer

Receiving an offer is not guaranteed, as it depends on course requirements, and how competitive a course is. Always refer to the published course requirements on CourseSearch to make sure you are eligible to be considered for an offer.

For more details on offers, click on the "10 - Offers" article topic.

Updating Course Preferences

After submitting a course application, applicants can edit their course preference list as many times as they would like whilst the change of preference window is open.

Each VTAC offer round has a designated change of preference window. Once the change of preference deadline for that offer round passes, preferences become locked for consideration. Once offers are released, the change of preference window will reopen for the next offer round.

How Offers Are Made

Once preferences are locked, applications are forwarded to institutions for assessment. Each institution evaluates applications based on their entry requirements. If an applicant qualifies for multiple course offers, VTAC will only issue an offer for the highest preference they are eligible for in that round. Applicants will be considered for courses listed above an offered course in following offer rounds.

Why Change of Preference Deadlines Matter

Change of preference deadlines ensure that VTAC can prepare applications for selection, and institutions have sufficient time to review applications and make offers. This process repeats for each offer round conducted through VTAC.

How to Access Your Results

Once released, you can view your results through:

Understanding Your ATAR Calculation

For more details on how VTAC scales study scores and calculates the ATAR, refer to VTAC's ATAR page.

VTAC has two intake periods:

  • Main round (Semester 1/February intake):

Application fees are determined by when you apply. Applications open in late July and close in late September (late application periods follow September, with much higher fees).

  • Mid-year (Semester 2/July intake):

Applications carry a set fee throughout the application period. Application period opens in early April and closes in early June.

Visit the VTAC Key Dates page for the full list of application periods and associated fees.

The academic documentation guarantee deadline is the final date to submit supporting documents for your previous study (if required) to ensure they are considered in all offer rounds.

This deadline is different for Main round and Mid-year intake periods. For exact deadlines, visit the VTAC Key Dates page.

Documents submitted after this date will still be made available to institutions, but consideration is not guaranteed. Provide your official documents at your earliest opportunity once they are received.

How to Submit Academic Documents by the Deadline:

  1. Enter your previous study details in the ‘Education History’ section of your account.
  2. If electronic access to your results is unavailable, you will be required to upload them. You may also receive an email request for additional documents, such as your transcript or completion certificate.
  3. Check the ‘Providing Evidence’ page in your account to view required documents.
  4. Obtain official academic documents (transcripts and/or completion certificates).
  5. Upload your documents by selecting ‘Upload document’ next to the relevant entry on the ‘Providing Evidence’ page before the guarantee deadline.

Document Requirements:

  • Documents must be high-quality colour scans of official hard copies or secure, digitally signed PDFs.
  • If a document is rejected due to non-compliance, you will be notified via email.

This guarantee deadline also applies to personal statements and other supporting documents. However, Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) applications and documents have a separate, firm deadline.
