VTAC can electronically match certain secondary and post-secondary study results. Applicants will be informed when lodging a claim whether an electronic match will be attempted or if supporting documentation is required.
The types of studies and qualifications VTAC can electronically match are listed below:
Secondary qualifications:
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and other Victorian senior secondary results (e.g., VCE VM)
- Australian interstate Year 12 results
- International Baccalaureate (IB) results
- New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) results
- New Zealand Cambridge International Education (CIE) results
- Name with correct spelling
- Date of birth
- Student number (not VTAC ID)
Note on international studies (IB, NCEA, and NZ CIE):
Some results require students to authorise their release to VTAC. Applicants should check that they have provided the correct permissions for VTAC to access these results with their school and/or curriculum authority.
Post-secondary qualifications:
VTAC can electronically verify post-secondary results from most major Australian Universities. If an institution is not eligible for electronic matching, or if the matching process fails, VTAC will notify the applicant that supporting documentation is required to verify the claim.

About the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
The Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), assesses the aptitude of candidates seeking to undertake tertiary studies. The test is available in two formats: Multiple Choice and Written English.
When the STAT is required
STAT is typically taken by individuals without formal qualifications or those with outdated qualifications. To confirm whether you need to sit the STAT, please review the institution publications as VTAC does not determine if it is required for entry.
For details on the STAT, including preparation and booking information, visit the STAT website.
Institutions vary in how long they consider STAT results. If you have results from previous years, check with the institution to ensure your results will be accepted.
VTAC cannot assess overseas qualifications without official certificates and transcripts. Organise your documentation and upload them to your VTAC account as early as possible to avoid delays.
If your documents are in a language other than English, you will need to provide translations from a NAATI certified translator.
Assessment of Overseas Qualifications for VTAC Applications
If you have studied overseas and are applying for courses through VTAC, your qualifications will be assessed to determine their comparability to Australian qualifications. This assessment is included in your application fee.
How VTAC Assesses Overseas Qualifications
VTAC uses approved assessment tools to evaluate your qualifications, primarily:
- The Department of Education"s Country Education Profiles
- UK ENIC (formerly UK NARIC)
This process determines whether your qualification is comparable with Australian qualifications.
How Institutions Use the Assessment
- The results of VTAC"s assessment are only shared with the institutions on your course preference list.
- Each institution makes independent selection decisions based on a competitive process.
- They will evaluate your level of achievement against selection criteria and compare it with other applicants.
Important Notes
- VTAC does not issue assessment outcomes for qualifications.
- VTAC"s assessment is solely for the purpose of course applications through VTAC.
