Who can apply for mid-year courses through VTAC?

Most current year 12 students cannot apply for mid-year. Only students studying an Australian year 12 curriculum or the International Baccalaureate (IB) on a Northern Hemisphere timetable can apply to start studying at mid-year.

You can apply for mid-year courses through VTAC if you are:

  • An Australian citizen or resident who is not currently completing an Australian year 12 certificate.
  • A domestic year 12 student currently studying an Australian year 12 curriculum or the International Baccalaureate (IB) on a Northern Hemisphere timetable.
  • An international year 12 student currently studying an Australian year 12 curriculum or the International Baccalaureate (IB) on a Northern Hemisphere timetable (Courses available through some institutions only).

When researching courses in CourseSearch, the courses will have codes that correspond to the course fee types determined by your citizenship/residency status. To better understand which course codes you can apply for, see Which course codes can I apply for?.

How to apply

Before you add course preferences, you need to create a VTAC account and complete your profile. This includes providing your personal details and education. You can then access the course preferences section in your account. You may need to complete some additional tasks or provide evidence. These will appear on your account dashboard. Current year 12 students can create an account and complete their profile but most students will have to wait until August to apply for courses.

If you already have a VTAC account from 2025, you do not need to create a new one. You can access the system using your existing login details. Within your account, your profile information will populate based on our current records. Please review all of your account information, ensure all of your details are correct and update any information that may have changed, including education history. You will need to complete a new course application with preferences that reflect the mid-year courses that are available through VTAC.

For more information, see How to apply for courses.
