Top tips in the lead up to exams

You’ve been working hard all year and now it’s time to show off what you’ve learned and prepare for exams. We know that studying can be a daunting task, but we’ve collated our top tips to help you feel prepared.
Prepare early
Procrastination can affect everyone, so while last-minute studying before an exam might seem like a good idea, it’s best to get on top of your study early. By starting as early as possible, you can have a clear understanding of what topics will be covered in your exams, practice exam conditions and get feedback from teachers.
Plan your study
Make a plan for your study as soon as possible. Map out the order of your exams and consider your time from study, transport, sleeping and socialisation. Update your plan as often as necessary and make notes after each session, so you know what to cover the next time you study.
It’s best to space out your study and continuously revise topics so that they are top of mind when they appear in your exam.
Motivation is key
There are endless distractions that can stop you from studying, from scrolling your phone, watching TV or catching up with friends. It’s best to minimise all distractions when it’s time to study, from leaving your phone in another room, to scheduling set break times. Avoid multitasking and create a study plan to ensure you can keep motivated during the busy period.
Manage your time and find your study style
Do you like to wake up early? Or do you prefer to study late at night? Choose a study time that works best for you and your preferences. This way you will get the most out of each study session.
Make sure you also choose a learning style that fits you. If you’re a visual learner, use diagrams, pictures and cue cards to support your learning. If you’re more auditory, listen to recordings or talk out your study points.
If you find yourself loosing concentration, take a moment and have a break. Think about whether you’re using the time to your best advantage and refocus.
Take time for yourself
The exam period can be a stressful time, so it’s essential that you focus on your wellbeing. It’s important to schedule regular study breaks, leave time in your day to eat, socialise and stay active. The more you fuel your body and take time for yourself, you can relieve stress and improve your function. And don’t forget about sleep! It’s crucial too get enough sleep to give yourself a good night’s rest. Sleep will help in your memory consolidation to ensure everything you’ve learned across the day is properly stored.
Don’t forget you’ve got this! Be confident in yourself and all the hard work you’ve put in over the last year. You know what you’re doing and should be so proud.
Good luck!
